Elder Michael C. Virgil

The fourth child of five children born to the late Lewis T. Virgil and Ida Virgil, he gave his life to the Lord at the age of 14, While his older sister and brother played the organ and piano, he began playing the drums.  Then he began to play the organ at the church after his older siblings moved to other parts of the country to work in other ministries.  He then began assisting other churches with their music departments.  Elder Virgil also served as the local and district minister (District#7) of music for a number of years.

In 1982, he married Rena Copprue, truly a marriage that God has smiled upon and is blessing tremendously.

He was called to the ministry in 1987 and served as a minister under his father-in-law, the late Elder George Lee Copprue at the Fifteenth Street Church of God in Christ in Columbus, MS.   Elder Copprue was instrumental in his early development and was an example of how a minister should live.  Elder Virgil was ordained in 1994 and  served as an assistant elder under Elder Copprue.

After serving faithfully as district minister of music under Supt. Jessie Hutton, in 1999, he was then appointed to serve as Jurisdictional Minister of Music for the Northern Mississippi Jurisdictional Music Dept. under Bishop T.T. Scott, where he is currently serving 12 districts.

In August, 2001 he was then asked to serve as pastor of the St. Paul Church of God in Christ, in Kilmichael, MS.  The church accepted Elder and Sis. Virgil and has worked wholeheartedly with the vision God has given them.  The church is steadily growing and God is moving mightily.   The tasks have been great, but God has given Elder Virgil the strength and the courage to handle each and every one.   He is committed to allowing the Lord to direct his footsteps and let the Lord's Word be a light to his path.

A 1985 Graduate of Mississippi State University, where he is presently employed, he also holds a Master of Science Degree in Instructional Technology.
